President Donald Trump tweeted a doctored video of Muslim Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota that made her seem like she was downplaying the significance of the 9/11 attacks on April 12 (video below).
In the full video, Omar is describing the founding of CAIR, the Council on American–Islamic Relations, at a meeting in Woodland Hills, California:
CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.
In the doctored video, promoted by Trump and Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas, Omar is only shown saying: “CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something.”
In response, MSNBC host Joy Reid played a clip of Trump bragging on 9/11 about how his Wall Street building reclaimed its title as the tallest building in lower Manhattan as the Twin Towers went down:
40 Wall Street actually was the second tallest building in downtown Manhattan. And it was actually, before the World Trade Center was the tallest, and then when they built the World Trade Center it became known as the second-tallest and now it’s the tallest.
