President Donald Trump falsely claimed his administration is treating immigrant children in detention centers “very well” even though they lack soap, toothpaste, sanitary conditions and cannot sleep because the lights are turned on 24 hours a day.
Fox News host Shep Smith called out the president’s lies by recalling a Fox News report that said the children were being kept in “horrible conditions” inside a facility in Clint, Texas.
Smith noted a legal team, which visited the detention center, said some of the 300 immigrant children had been held for weeks, in violation of the law, which only allows for three days.
The team also said that some pre-teen children were forced to care for infants and toddlers due to the neglect (a crime) by the detention center.
Smith quoted the legal team as saying: “Were these prisoners of war instead of innocent children, those withholding [soap and toothpaste] would be violations of the Geneva Convention.”
