Several conservative media outlets and the Republican National Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tried to smear former Attorney general Eric Holder by tweeting an edited video in which Holder did a play on former first lady Michele Obama’s famous line: “When they go low, we go high.”
Holder made his comment to a small crowd of Georgia Democrats, reports Talking Points Memo:
Michelle [Obama] always says that when they go low, we go high. No. When they go low, we kick ‘em. That’s what this new Democratic Party is about. We’re proud as hell to be Democrats. We’re going to fight for the ideals of the Democratic Party.
Conservative media outlets such as The Federalist, The Washington Times, Twitchy, The Daily Caller, Hot Air, The Howie Carr Show, and Grabien, along with McDaniel jumped on the “kick” part, and parroted the Republican line about Democrats being dangerous.
These same right wing media outlets initially failed to include the rest of Holder’s speech, notes Talking Points Memo:
Now, when I say, you know, ‘we kick ‘em,’ I don’t mean we do anything inappropriate. We don’t do anything illegal. But we’ve got to be tough and we’ve got to fight for the very things that John Lewis, Martin Luther King, Whitney Young, all those folks gave to us. That stuff can be taken away. That’s what they want to do.
McDaniel has history of fear mongering including blaming Democrats for the failures of Republicans and Trump, and warned people to support Trump in June 2018.
