Pro-Trump evangelicals are sounding the alarm, warning of the “death of Christianity” and the end of the United States if the Equality Act — which would extend federal anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ people — is passed (listen to audio below).
Pat Robertson warned on “The 700 Club” that God would destroy America if the Equality Act is made into law, reports Right Wing Watch:
This is a devastating blow to religious freedom and to the sanctity of America. If you want to bring the judgment of God on this nation, you just keep this stuff up. You know, I was reading in Leviticus where it said, “Because of these things, the land will vomit you out.” Vomit you out. I think God will say, “I’ve had it with America, if you do this kind of stuff, I’m going to get rid of you as a nation.”
Michelle Cretella, the executive director of the anti-LGBTQ pseudo-science American College of Pediatricians (not to be confused with the legitimate American Academy of Pediatrics) claimed on “Washington Watch” radio show on May 10 that the Equality Act should actually be called the “Death to Christianity Act,” reports Right Wing Watch:
I think it’s really super important for all listeners to realize this law, if it passes, if this bill becomes law, it impacts everyone. And a better name for it is the “Death to Christianity Act.” OK? That’s going to be the umbrella. … Christianity, it will cease to be publicly practiced. It’ll become against the law.
Focus on the Family falsely claimed in an email blast that the Equality Act “labels Christian beliefs about marriage, sexuality and family ‘discriminatory.’ It empowers the federal government to punish citizens who disagree with modern SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) ideology.”
The Equality Act never mentions personal beliefs or Christians, but Focus on the Family claimed it “will have disastrous consequences for women, children, people of faith.”
