NYPD Fires Officer Daniel Pantaleo Who Used Chokehold On Eric Garner, Pantaleo Still Denies Using Chokehold
The New York Police Department announced that it was firing Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was filmed using a chokehold when police arrested Eric Garner for allegedly selling loose cigarettes on Staten Island on July 17, 2014 .
New York City Police James O’Neill made the announcement of Pantaleo’s firing during a press conference, notes Patch:
The unintended consequence of Garner’s death must have a consequence of its own. It is clear that Daniel Pantaleo can no longer effectively serve as a NYC police officer.
In August, Administrative Judge Rosemarie Maldonado, concluded that Pantaleo was “implausible and self-serving” because he denied using a chokehold even though he was filmed using a chokehold, reported the New York Times.
