Michael Bloomberg Is Preparing To Run For President As Democrat: Report

Billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is is preparing to enter the Democratic presidential primary, reports the New York Times:

Bloomberg has dispatched staffers to Alabama to gather signatures to qualify for the primary there. Though Alabama does not hold an early primary, it has a Friday deadline for candidates to formally enter the race.

Bloomberg is a strong supporter of stricter gun laws, but opposes universal health care.

Bloomberg could pose a serious problem for former Vice President Joe Biden as they both try to appeal to centrists, who largely want to keep the status quo.

Bloomberg told CBS News‘ “Face the Nation” in late October that he had “reservations”about the Democratic candidates:

I have my reservations about the people running and their campaigning, the promises they’re making that they can’t fulfill, and their willingness to admit what is possible and what isn’t and their inconsistency from day to day. This is not the way to run a railroad.
