Michael Avenatti On Possible 2020 Run Against Trump: ‘When They Go Low, I Say We Hit Harder’

Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti gave a speech at the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding dinner on Aug. 10 in a possible preview of a 2020 run against President Donald Trump.

Avenatti, who had told CNN on Aug. 9 that he was seriously considering a presidential bid, changed Michelle Obama’s famous “go higher” quote:

What I fear for this Democratic Party that I love so much is that we have a tendency to bring nail clippers to a gunfight.

Tonight though, I would like to suggest a different course. I believe that our party, the Democratic Party, must be a party that fights fire with fire… When they go low, I say, we hit harder.

The Washington Post notes the warm response to Aventti’s appearance:

Organizers of the Wing Ding — which has drawn heavy hitters like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in past years — said he boosted ticket sales.

“I’ve learned that the people of Iowa are fairly receptive to me and receptive to my message,” said Avenatti.
