Republican Gov. Matt Bevin of Kentucky falsely claimed on April 13 that “hundreds of thousands” of children were sexually assaulted and used drugs because teachers went on strike for higher wages for one day.
Bevin failed to provide any evidence for his absurd claim while talking to reporters:
I guarantee you somewhere in Kentucky today, a child was sexually assaulted that was left at home because there was nobody there to watch them. I guarantee you somewhere today, a child was physically harmed or ingested poison because they were left alone because a single parent didn’t have any money to take care of them.
Children were harmed – some physically, some sexually, some were introduced to drugs for the first time – because they were vulnerable and left alone
Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear slammed Bevin’s false claim on Twitter on April 14:
1/3 “Gov. Bevin’s comments last night saying teachers rallying in Frankfort led to children being sexually abused are morally reprehensible and must be condemned by all Kentuckians.
