A firefighter is accused of using a racial slur against a black preschooler and spitting on the child inside a Hooters restaurant in Overland, Kansas.
The child’s family was celebrating a birthday at Hooters with about 20 to 30 guests when the little boy reportedly wandered off.
When a family member went to retrieve him, the firefighter allegedly used a racial slur and spat on the child.
A witness, who was about 5 feet away, recalled the incident for KCTV:
He basically said get that little “blank” up off the floor. The n-word started to get thrown around.
According to the witness, the police were called and the firefighter gave a bizarre defense:
I didn’t catch what the officer said to him, but his immediate response was “It’s ok, I’m a fireman,” like that was supposed to blanket cover everything for him.
Overland Park police are still investigating the incident, but say that firefighter could be charged with battery and making a criminal threat.
