Justice Department: Trump Committed Felonies In Michael Cohen Case, Trump Claims He’s Cleared

The U.S. Justice Department claims President Donald Trump committed two felonies when he directed his former lawyer Michael Cohen to make secret hush six-figure payments to Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels in violation of federal campaign laws in the run-up to the 2016 election (more video below).

Former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal told MSNBC:

This is not a document by Mueller, this is filed by Trump’s own Justice Department, by the Southern District prosecutors in New York.

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin explained the court filings:

The Department of Justice today, in the most explicit terms, said the President of the United States committed two felonies. Just came out and said it… it’s just plain as day..
Congress is going to have to decide what if anything to do about that. But it is an extraordinary thing that the Department of Justice said the President of the United States committed these crimes.
