Former House Speaker John Boehner Goes Into Marijuana Business After Denying Cancer Patients Medical Marijuana For Years
Former House Speaker John Boehner is going into the marijuana business after denying cancer patients medical marijuana and allowing them to needlessly suffer for years.
Boehner tweeted about his new business venture and claimed he had “evolved” on marijuana.
I’m joining the board of #AcreageHoldings because my thinking on cannabis has evolved. I’m convinced de-scheduling the drug is needed so we can do research, help our veterans, and reverse the opioid epidemic ravaging our communities. @AcreageCannabis https://t.co/f5i9KcQD0W

Bloomberg News reports that Boehner will serve as a spokesman for Acreage Holdings, despite saying nine years ago he was “unalterably opposed” to marijuana legalization:
Over the last 10 or 15 years, the American people’s attitudes have changed dramatically. I find myself in that same position.
Boehner also opined on the numerous Americans sitting in jail because of marijuana, but made no mention of the major role that he played in locking them up:
When you look at the number of people in our state and federal penitentiaries, who are there for possession of small amounts of cannabis, you begin to really scratch your head. We have literally filled up our jails with people who are nonviolent and frankly do not belong there.
