Christian Leader Jerry Falwell Jr. Says Trump Is ‘Good Moral Person’
Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University, told The Guardian that President Donald Trump is a “good moral person”:
Ever since I’ve known him, he’s been a good, moral person, a strong leader, a tough leader – and that’s what this country needs. He is like Ronald Reagan on steroids.
Falwell didn’t mention Trump’s admitted adultery, racism, imprisoning immigrant children, numerous lies, payoffs to porn stars or his famous confession that he sexually assaults women.
However, Falwell did use Jesus to as cover for Trump’s un-Christlike behavior:
Evangelicals believe every human being is a sinner. We’re all imperfect, we’re all flawed, and we’re redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Falwell — who reportedly censors the Liberty University student newspaper, banned a student Democrat club and regulates the private sex lives of adult students via rules — described the Democrats as “fascists” and “Brownshirts.”
Falwell claimed that students who attend Liberty do not have to be Christians even though the Liberty application includes a required essay of personal faith:
You don’t have to be a conservative to come here. You don’t have to be a Christian to come here. But people come here knowing what Liberty’s about, and the vast majority that do come here are conservative and are Christian.
