Labor Secretary Alex Aocsta defended the light jail sentence of Jeffrey Epstein, which he helped negotiate as a U.S. attorney in Miami, by claiming the world was “very different” in regards to child rape and sexual abuse only twelve years ago.
CNN reporter Kaitlin Collins asked Acosta: “Would you make this same agreement today?”
These questions are always very difficult because we now have 12 years of knowledge and hindsight and we live in a very different world. ..
Today’s world does not allow some of the victim-shaming that could take place at trial 12 years ago.
Acosta saod the Palm Beach State Attorney’s office was ready to “let Epstein walk free,” and said the plea deal was necessary to put him behind bars, even though Epstein was allowed to leave jail daily for work.
However, former Palm Beach (FL) State Atty Barry Krischer said that Acosta was “completely wrong” in his statement, tweets NBC News reporter Peter Alexander:
