White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a morning briefing that Rob Porter “has been effective in his role as staff secretary.”
Porter resigned his position after two of his ex-wives accused him of physical abuse.
Sanders refused to comment on the status of Porter’s security clearance, but read a statement from Porter, denying the allegations:
These outrageous allegations are simply false. I took the [black eye] photos given to the media nearly 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described.
I’ve been transparent and truthful about these vile claims, but I will not further engage publicly with a coordinated smear campaign.
Porter reportedly managed documents, news clippings and briefing books that entered the Oval Office.
