A video has surfaced on YouTube that appears to show a U.S. soldier firing into the driver’s side of a civilian truck in Afghanistan.
POLITICO could not independently confirm the authenticity of the video, titled “Happy Few Ordnance Symphony,” which was removed by an anonymous user.
Military sources told POLITICO the military vehicle is a version of the M-ATV armored vehicle used by special operations forces.
The U.S. Central Command told POLITICO:
The amateur video posted on a public website gives us serious concern. The video in question is not official, not authorized and does not represent the professionalism of the service members of U.S. Central Command.
We are conducting an investigation into this video, and will take appropriate actions as a result of this investigation.
The shooting clip was part of a 3-minute, 9-second video that may have been filmed in 2017.
U.S. troops have been fighting alongside elite Afghan troops to stop the Islamic State in the Nangarhar Province in what has become the longest war in U.S. history.
