Trump Mocks Pence’s Christian Beliefs, Opposition To Abortion: Report
A new report says that President Donald Trump regularly mocks Vice President Mike Pence’s Christian beliefs and like to “let Pence know who’s boss.”
A former Trump campaign staffer told The New Yorker that when people met with Trump after meeting with Pence, Trump would ask them, “Did Mike make you pray?”
Two sources told The New Yorker that Trump also gives Pence hard time about his views on abortion and homosexuality.
Trump belittled Pence’s strong desire to overturn Roe v. Wade when a legal scholar told them that if the Supreme Court did so, many states would likely legalize abortion, reports The New Yorker.
Trump reportedly told Pence: “You see? You’ve wasted all this time and energy on it, and it’s not going to end abortion anyway.”
During the same conversation, the issue turned to gay rights, and Trump motioned toward Pence and joked, “Don’t ask that guy—he wants to hang them all!”
Pence has been hosting a Bible study for Trump’s Cabinet that is led Pastor Ralph Drollinger, who wrote in 2004: “Women with children at home, who either serve in public office, or are employed on the outside, pursue a path that contradicts God’s revealed design for them. It is a sin.”
Drollinger has reportedly called Catholicism as “a false religion,” homosexuality “a sin,” and thinks wives should “submit” to their husbands.
