Trump Lies About His Charlottesville Statements, Phoenix Rally Cheers

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell fact-checked and called out President Donald Trump’s lies about his Charlottesville, Virginia statements during his speech in Phoenix, Arizona:

We should point out that president is misquoting himself. He keeps saying, this is me speaking. He did not quote the part where he said the blame goes to “many, many sides.”This is the president lying about the media. He is telling his audience that the media lies about him.

The President just quoted his remarks on Saturday after Charlottesville and he falsely quoted his remarks. He said on that Saturday, we condemn in the strongest most possible terms this egregious display of hatred bigotry and violence on many sides. On many sides. He repeated that twice. He did not include that just now in his quoting of himself to this audience.

He is lying to this audience about what he said and he is lying to this audience about what the media said about what he said.

While Trump created fantasy reasons and scenarios about the media supposedly attacking him, Trump supporters cheered the president’s lies and shouted, “CNN sucks!”

Trump repeatedly painted himself as a victim, and gave a shout out to recently-fired CNN political commentator Jeffrey Lord, who tweeted “Sieg heil” and lost his job, notes Mediaite.com:

And then you wonder why CNN is doing relatively poorly in the ratings. Because they’re putting like seven people all negative on Trump…and they fired Jeffrey Lord. Poor Jeffrey. Jeffrey Lord. I guess he was getting a little bit fed up and he was probably fighting back a little too hard. They said we’d better get him out.
