Trump Allows Employers To Deny Birth Control Coverage To Employees
President Donald Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has rolled back the Obamacare contraceptive mandate that required employers to include birth control in their adult employees’ health insurance plans.
Trump’s decision could affect up to 55 million women who have had free access to birth control under Obamacare since 2012, notes ThinkProgress.
Under the new HHS rule, employers can remove birth control from their adult employees’ health insurance plans simply by citing their personal religious or moral objections to birth control use by adults, reports ABC News.
Christian conservatives have long wanted Trump to use the power of the federal government to deny birth control coverage to adults (who do not want unwanted pregnancies).
