Texas Inmates Donate $53,000 To Hurricane Harvey Relief
Over 6,600 Texas inmates donated $53,863 from their commissary funds to help Hurricane Harvey victims.
Jason Clark, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman, told the Dallas Morning News: “They were requesting to donate money.”
The inmates normally use commissary funds for basic items such as personal hygiene, paper and pencils and food not available in jail.
Clark said the inmates also donated after Hurricane Katrina struck Louisiana and when Hurricane Rita hit Texas in 2005.
Clark added that some inmates have donated hundreds of dollars.
