South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster Signs Order To Allow Adoption Agencies To Discriminate Based On Religion

Republican Gov. Henry McMaster of South Carolina signed an executive order on March 13 to allow adoption agencies to discriminate against families based on religion.

The Charleston Post & Courier reports that the Greenville-based Miracle Hill Ministries has discriminated against non-Christian  parents for nearly 30 years.

McMaster reportedly sent a letter to Reid Lehman, the executive director of Miracle Hill, promising him legal protection for the agency’s bigotry:

It is important that religious organizations not be required to sacrifice the tenets of their faith in order to serve the children of South Carolina.

McMaster also asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services exempt South Carolina from an Obama administration rule that does not allow publicly licensed and funded foster care agencies to discriminate based on religion.
