Snowboarder Breaks Neck In Horrifying Crash At Olympics

Austrian snowboarder Markus Schairer suffered a broken neck during the men’s snowboard cross quarterfinals at the Winter Olympics.

The New York Post notes that Schairer was taken to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken fifth cervical vertebra in his neck. The 30-year-old athlete is listed in stable condition.

According to the Austrian Olympic committee, Schairer will be taken back to Austria for medical treatment “as soon as possible.”
