Secret Service Cannot Afford Trump Family’s Extensive Traveling, Homes
The Secret Service cannot afford to pay hundreds of agents who are protecting President Donald Trump’s family and their multiple residences on the East Coast.
Secret Service Director Randolph “Tex” Alles, told USA TODAY more than 1,000 agents have already hit their limits for salary and overtime pay for 2017.
“The president has a large family, and our responsibility is required in law,” Alles added. “I can’t change that. I have no flexibility.”
Alles wants lawmakers to raise the combined salary and overtime limit for agents from $160,000 per year to $187,000 until 2020.
If that proposal is approved by Congress, about 130 agents would still not be fully paid for hundreds of hours already worked.
“I don’t see this changing in the near term,” Alles concluded.
