White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders falsely claimed that the indictment of Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, had nothing to do with the campaign:
Today’s announcement has nothing to do with the President, has nothing to do with the President’s campaign, or campaign activity.
Sanders also falsely claimed there was ‘clear evidence that the Clinton campaign colluding with Russian intelligence.”
Sanders provided no evidence of her false claim.
The Associated Press notes that Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates pleaded not guilty to “a combined 12 counts including conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.”
Former Trump campaign advisor George Papadopolous pleaded guilty to making false statements to FBI agents in a plea agreement, which ABC News’ Jon Karl told Sanders was “specifically about the campaign,” but she denied that as well.
