Salt Lake City, Utah Cops Shoot, Then Use Taser On Man, Killing Him

A newly-released police body cam shows Officer  Clinton Fox shooting and killing killed 50-year-old Patrick Harmon during a routine stop in Salt Lake City, Utah on Aug. 13.

Over the weekend, several protesters, including Harmon’s family, demonstrated outside the Salt Lake City Police Department demanding the release of the body-camera video.

Harmon was pulled over for riding his bike with no rear tail light and riding his bicycle across six lanes of traffic. Police found that he had several warrants, notes the Deseret News.

Harmon told police that he was trying to take care of the warrants and “getting right with God,” according to the police report, Harmon was about to be handcuffed by police when he suddenly fled.

According to the police report, Harmon turned around and threatened officers with a knife, which is not seen on the video.

Fox shot Harmon three times, and then another officer tased the wounded and dying black man.

About a minute-and-a-half after the shooting and tasing, an officer asked, “Do we need a tourniquet on anything?”

Salt Lake City District Attorney Sim Gill’s office said the killing was justified:

After conducting an Officer Involved Critical Incident (OICI) review, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has determined that the August 13, 2017 Use of Deadly Force by a Salt Lake City Police Department officer in [sic] was legally justified.
