Republican Rep. Francis Rooney of Florida told Americans not to talk about porn star Stormy Daniels who allegedly had an affair with President Donald Trump in 2006, and may have been illegally paid $130,000 in hush money by Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen.
Rooney was asked on CNN if Trump needed to speak about a death threat allegedly against Daniels, and replied:
Oh, I don’t know. I think he probably should say we might’ve been better off not trying to cover anything up, and we really weren’t trying to cover anything up, we just signed an agreement to protect ourselves financially or something.
But really what we need to do is pay attention to Putin.
Rooney did not explain why humans could not think about more than one topic at a time.
Later in the interview, Rooney pulled out the old tired what-about-Bill-Clinton line that Republicans often use to defend Trump:
We had a lot of presidents that were certainly not Boy Scouts… you just mentioned about Bill Clinton here a while ago. It would have been helpful if the public had the right to know about some of the previous indiscretions of other people, had the right to know about Bill Clinton.
