Religious Right activist Alveda King falsely claimed that President Donald Trump has made it possible for Christians to say, “Merry Christmas” even though there was never any legal ban against the phrase before Trump took office.
King told televangelist and convicted felon Jim Bakker that the Johnson Amendment, which Trump opposes, stopped 501(c)(3) organizations like churches “couldn’t say, ‘Jesus’” or even preach the Gospel, which is not true, notes Right Wing Watch.
King added her falsehood about Merry Christmas:
When he was running for office, he said, “Christians, you have all the power. Use it. We need to say Merry Christmas again.” And one of the first things he made sure we could do was say Merry Christmas again.
