The Hasta Muerte Coffee shop in Oakland is refusing to serve police officers for the “physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves.”
KCRA notes that a sergeant, who was refused service, said he was surprised that the employee-owned cafe would not serve him.
The coffee shop workers/owners refused to comment to KCRA, but they reportedly wrote on Instagram in Spanish (translated):
Talk to your neighbors, not the police… We have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves.
The Oakland Police Officers Association is asking for a dialogue with the coffee shop.
