New York Attorney General Suing Trump Foundation For Illegal Conduct, Trump Tweets Furious Rant

New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Foundation charity — operated by President Donald Trump, Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka — for a “pattern of persistent illegal conduct.”

The lawsuit says the Trump Foundation — which has no actual employees —  illegally coordinated with the Trump political campaign, and illegally contributed funds to Trump’s personal and business interests, reports CNN.

Underwood claimed Trump used money from his foundation to to pay off his businesses’ creditors and to decorate one of his golf clubs, notes The Washington Post:

As our investigation reveals, the Trump Foundation was little more than a checkbook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their purpose or legality

The lawsuit notes that the Trump Foundation raised over $2.8 million to influence the presidential election during a televised fundraiser that Trump held on Jan. 28, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Pro Publica reported on the Trump Foundation’s shady dealings back in 2o16.

Trump exploded at the lawsuit on Twitter by blaming former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman who is no longer in office and did not file the lawsuit:

Trump has already paid more than $330,000 in reimbursements and penalty taxes for the Trump Foundation since 2016, reports The Washington Post.
