Focus on the Family Supports Rep. Cory Gardner Who Voted to Deny Women Abortions for Rape and Incest

Focus on the Family’s political arm CitizenLink recently lent its support for Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo) who voted in 2011 for H.R. 358, the “Protect Life Act,” which would have allowed hospitals the choice to deny women an abortion even in life-threatening situations, reported RHRealityCheck.org.

Rep. Gardner also co-sponsored a bill that would have changed the definition of rape to cover only “forcible” rape,” noted Salon.com.

As part of the Colorado Senate, Gardner supported Senate bill 143, which tried to “ban all abortions in Colorado with the exception of situations when the life of the mother is in jeopardy,” noted the Denver Channel. 143 also would have “subjected physicians who perform abortions in every case but to save the pregnant woman’s life, to class three felony charges and a sentence of up to 12 years in prison,” noted KDVR.

Gardener also voted in 2007 vote as a state lawmaker against requiring hospitals to inform survivors of a sexual assault of the availability of emergency contraception, reported KDVR.

Gardner also “co-sponsored a bill in Congress as recently as (2013) to give personhood status to fertilized eggs” and would ban numerous types of birth control, reported The Associated Press, but changed his mind in 2014 when he realized “it can ban common forms of contraception.”

In 2010, Gardner denied that humans had any hand in causing climate change.

“I think the climate is changing, but I don’t believe humans are causing that change to the extent that’s been in the news,” said Gardner, noted the Coloradoan.
