Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo held a press conference to debunk conspiracy theorists who have falsely claimed that the U.S. government staged the shooting massacre in which gunman Stephen Paddock killed 58 people.
Lombardo brought up discrepancies between the timelines of sheriff’s department and the Mandalay Bay Hotel, which have reported both Sep. 25 and Sep. 28 as check-in dates for Paddock.
Lombardo said that Paddock checked into the room on Sept. 25, but changed his form of payment and added his girlfriend Marilou Danley’s name on Sept. 28 even though she was in the Philippines:
So that was the confusion with that, no matter what the perception is, whether we were being non-transparent or attempting to be subversive is false. I was acting on the information I had at the time I was provided it.
“There is no conspiracy between the FBI, between LVMP and the MGM,” Lombardo added. “Nobody is attempting to hide anything.”
Lombardo also thanked his department and the community for their heroism:
So at this point, I want to thank the community. I want to thank you for letting me be your sheriff. And “Vegas strong.”
