Highest Paid YouTube Star Drops N-Word, Video Gamers Defend Him

PewDiePie, the highest paid YouTube star with over 57 million subscribers, reportedly dropped the N-word during a live-stream broadcast of people playing the video game Player Unknown Battlegrounds.

PewDiePie, whose real name Felix Kjellberg, lost a contract with Disney earlier this year after posting anti-Semitic content and making references to Nazis in videos, notes Tech Crunch.

The Guardian reports that many gamers are coming to his defense:

Despite the public outcry, many people are coming to Kjellberg’s defense (some using the hastag #PewDiePieDidNothingWrong), dismissing the event as a crime of gaming passion. This ignores his influence and sends a clear message that it’s okay to be racist in the gaming community.”
