Georgia Cop Mistakes His Own Gun For Taser, Shoots Teen Boy

Baldwin County Deputy Charles Gillis mistook his own gun for a Taser and shot 18-year-old Jamel Jackson on Oct. 9 in Milledgeville, Georgia.

The bizarre incident was filmed by Gillis’ own police body cam.

Two Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies were handcuffing Jackson when Gillis pulled out a gun and fired at the teen, hitting him in the arm.

One of the deputies stated on his radio: “Gillis discharged his firearm at the subject. Clean shot through his bicep. He’s fine. … He’s actually giving us a hard time, but it’s OK.”

According to The Macon telegraph, the deputies went to the family’s apartment after Jackson’s mother told a 911 operator that her son had hit her in the face.

Gillis is still on administrative leave while Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigates the shooting.
