Gay US Olympians Mock Vice President: ‘Eat Your Heart Out, Pence’
The first two openly gay male U.S. winter Olympians publicly mocked Vice President Mike Pence for his political record on LGBTQ rights, which includes signing a law — as Indiana governor — that could have legalized anti-gay discrimination, per religious freedom (video below).
Pence, who is in Pyeongchang, South Korea for the Winter Olympics, changed the Indiana law after public condemnation and corporate boycott threats.
Freeskier Gus Kenworthy and figure skater Adam Rippon posed for a photo that Kenworthy posted on Instagram with a caption:
The Opening Ceremony is a wrap and the 2018 Winter Olympic Gaymes are officially under way! I feel incredibly honored to be here in Korea competing for the US and I’m so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy! Eat your heart out, Pence.
On Feb. 5, Kenworthy told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that Pence was a “strange choice” and a “bad fit” to lead the U.S. delegation to the Olympics (video below):
[Pence] seems like such a strange choice, To have somebody leading the delegation that’s directly attacked the LGBTQ community, and a Cabinet in general that just sort of stands against us and has tried to do things to set us back, it just seems like a bad fit.
