Franklin Graham Attacks Black Congresswoman For Quoting Trump Phone Call
Evangelist Franklin Graham attacked Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida for recalling a phone call from President Donald Trump to the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in Afghanistan on Oct. 4.
Wilson said that Trump told Johnson’s widow, Myeshia, that Johnson “knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt.”
Cowanda Jones-Johnson, a family member who raised Johnson, told CNN that she was present for the phone call and said that Wilson’s account was “very accurate,” despite Trump’s denials.
Graham, who did not hear the phone call, unleashed a tirade against Wilson and the media (for accurately reporting the incident) in a Facebook rant.
Graham claimed to speak for all military families while failing to mention that Jones-Johnson backed up Wilson’s account:
Shame on the liberal media and politicians like Congresswoman Frederica Wilson for politicizing the recent deaths of those in our military. She is trying to use the grief of these families to further her anti-Trump agenda. As the parent of a son in the military I am appalled.
These families want the focus to be on their children or spouse, their bravery and sacrifice for our country in the war against radical Islam—not what President Donald J. Trump did or didn’t say. We need to come around them as communities and as a nation and support them in prayer.
