The hosts of “Fox & Friends” defended President Donald Trump’s callous call to U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson’s pregnant widow, Myeshia Johnson.
According to Rep. Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida, who was present for the call, Trump said: “[H]e knew what he signed up for … but when it happens, it hurts anyway.”
Co-host Ainsley Earhardt, who was not present for the call, rewrote Trump’s words:
My response to this was the president of the United States of America called to say, “Thank you for your service, I’m sorry for your sacrifice.” That in and of itself is extremely special that the president of the United States picked up the phone to call these families.”
Later in the show, Earhardt rewrote Trump’s statement again:
Out of all the things you should be complaining about the president, this is not something you should be complaining about, in my opinion. He called the family to say, “I’m really sorry, thank you for your sacrifice.” She didn’t like the tone, she didn’t like the way he phrased one sentence. Do you really think the president was calling to condemn the family? No.
