Fox News “Outnumbered” host Lisa Kennedy Montgomery blamed Obamacare for premium rates that are set by multi-billion dollar health insurance companies and state regulators:
I mean, the whole enterprise, all of Obamacare is immoral. All of Obamacare has resulted in human suffering. And all you have to do is look at someplace like Alaska, where people’s premiums have quadrupled since 2013.
It’s not clear why Montgomery falsely claimed that Obamacare was behind premium prices, but Obamacare provides subsidies (tax credits) so that people can afford premiums set by insurance companies.
CNBC noted in February that the rate of uninsured Americans had hit a record low under Obamacare.
The Washington Post reported in June how people in Alaska are paying less in 2017 than they did in 2013 thanks to the Obamacare tax credits, which Republicans want to gut with their Graham-Cassidy bill:
“In Alaska, 93 percent of marketplace enrollees receive tax credits, according to the Alaska Division of Insurance. So even though the average premium cost increased 203 percent from 2013 to 2017, most people on the exchanges are paying far less than they did in 2013 — that is, if they were able to buy insurance in 2013. (They might not have been able to obtain or afford health insurance because of a preexisting condition, but the ACA eliminated that restriction.)”
“In 2017, the 86 percent of people in the exchanges in Alaska who receive tax credits pay $93 per month, according to Kaiser Family Foundation. That’s far less than the $344 they were paying in 2013.”
