Focus on the Family Begs Listeners for Money While Contributing $52K to Rep. Todd Akin
Focus on the Family bills itself as a non-profit organization, which must turn to its listeners for contributions in order to continue. However, it was recently revealed that Focus on the Family’s political arm CitizenLink gave $52,413.67 to GOP Rep. Todd Akin who is running against Democrat Claire McCaskill.
Focus on the Family did not tell its listeners this fact, which was reported by midwestdemocracy.com:
“Citizenlink, a committee affiliated with Colorado-based Focus on the Family, has told the FEC it has spent $52,413.67 on behalf of Rep. Todd Akin in Missouri’s Senate race. The money went for direct mail, not TV ads.”
“Focus on the Family was founded by James Dobson. Its mission is to ‘cooperate with the Holy Spirit in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible by nurturing and defending the God-ordained institution of the family and promoting biblical truths worldwide,’ according to a statement on its website.”
Rep. Todd Akin has claimed that a woman suffering from a “legitimate rape” cannot get pregnant as her body somehow shuts down. He also claims that doctors have given abortion to women who were not pregnant.
