William Bennett, former gambling addict and former secretary of education, tried to smear the NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem by claiming they “don’t know any better,” and that they are “alien to themselves and a culture and a country.”
The players have been peacefully kneeling to protest police brutality of African-Americans, which Bennett did not mention.
Bennett told the Christian-based Values Voters Summit in Washington D.C. that President Donald Trump had “won on this issue” even though the players are still kneeling, notes Right Wing Watch:
But whatever you might want to say about these players who are kneeling, who are protesting, I think I have a little inside information I’ll share with the president. A lot of them don’t know any better. They just don’t know any better. They are alien to themselves and a culture and a country they do not understand.
Who has ever told them that America is the last, best hope of earth? Who has ever told them about the sacrifices at Gettysburg or Yorktown?
Bennett, who wrote “The Book of Virtues,” reportedly lost more than $8 million by gambling at casinos, noted The New York Times in 2003.
