Christians attending the Values Voters Summit cheered white nationalist and former White House advisor Steve Bannon during his speech to them in Washington D.C.
Bannon, who is back in his position as the head of Breitbart News, praised Christian white evangelicals and Catholics for getting Trump elected, notes Right Wing Watch.
Bannon also attacked Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:
Now the AP story today… talks about Bannon enlists the value voters in his war against the Republican strategist. This is not my war, this is our war and y’all didn’t start it, the establishment started it. But I will tell you one thing, you all are going to finish it.
Bannon warned that McConnell was on his way out:
Up on Capitol Hill, because I’ve been getting calls, it’s like before the ides of March. They’re just looking to find out, who’s going to be Brutus to your Julius Caesar.
Yeah Mitch, the donors are not happy, they’ve all left you. We’ve cut your oxygen off Mitch. Money is not courageous, but money is smart.
Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, which sponsored the Values Voters Summit, defended Bannon’s presence to The Christian Post:
This is a coalition effort. In other words, we have many co-sponsors and this is a platform for those who are working in the conservative movement, the social conservative movement.
We have a lot of like-minded friends that, you know, we may not agree with on everything, but there is a moment of opportunity and we must seize the moment for those that are willing to help advance the cause of the type of candidates that we can be supportive of. This is a platform of them
